SUMMARY:Haslemere celebrates the 80th Year Anniversary of VE Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Lion Green to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE D
 ay!\n\nTo mark the occasion there will be a full-sized replica Spitfire on
  the Green plus WW2 military vehicles\, stages\, stalls\, Festival bar and
  marquees.\n\nMusical entertainment will be provided by Rhythm &amp\; Groo
 ve Big Band (in the style of Glen Miller)\, Music Works Choir\, Blue Ray s
 wing/jazz band\, Sarah Prescott and a local Ukulele Band. There will also 
 be talks to reflect the period\, including Haslemere During the War\, Quee
 n's Royal Surrey Brigade\, Why We Fought The War In Europe\, The Role of t
 he Land Girls\, Important Allies and Recollections of VE Day. The event wi
 ll be opened by the Mayor of Haslemere and His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant o
 f Surrey.\n\nIn the lead up to the event on Lion Green\, the lamp posts of
  Haslemere will be bedecked with Commonwealth flags and we are asking loca
 l businesses to dress their windows to reflect VE Day. leading us up to th
 e spirit of the occasion from the beginning of May.\n\nLocal schools are a
 lso making poppies for two giant VE Day wreaths that will adorn the tower 
 of St Christopher's Church.\n\nThis event is sponsored by Haslemere Town C
 ouncil\, Haslemere Events\, Shottermill Great War Memorial Trust\, Hasleme
 re Festival\, Burley Geach and St Ives School.\n\nFree Entry
